Today, we caught up with James Tan, Technician Manager for Hong Seh Marine, and spoke with him about his experience as a technical manager in the yachting industry.

How did you become a Marine Technician at Hong Seh Marine?
I started in Keppel shipyard as an engineer on board for 25 years, overseeing all the repair and maintenance job in electrical and mechanical aspect. After that, I joined Hong Seh Marine for 13 years till now. A change of scope from a big commercial vessel to a pleasure craft.

What do your daily responsibilities involve?
They’re amazingly varied. I do a lot of the routine maintenance and servicing on engines, gearboxes and drivelines, and hydraulic systems and steering systems. But in addition to commissioning the engines for new boats, I also bridge over into technical handovers for customers and retrofit work. Once in a while, I might be flying overseas to Italy for the pre-delivery inspection of the new Ferretti yacht, attending Ferretti training activities to provide top-notch service and fully convey the top quality of Ferretti yachts to our clients.

What are the chief challenges of your work?
It would be trying to familiarize myself with each part of the boat. From the bow to the stern in a 70-foot yacht is all under my responsibility.

Not to mention, we have plenty of different boats to take care of and troubleshoot simultaneously, and their machinery and equipment can be various. But having a good team around you who share the same passion means there’s nothing we can’t fix.

What’s the most satisfying element of your job?
At Hong Seh Marine, we represent Ferretti Yachts, one of the most prestigious yacht brands globally, and the product I’m dealing with is a multi-million-dollar yacht.

When we hand over a new boat in perfect condition, I feel a genuine connection with the clients seeing just how happy and excited they are. That’s amazing.

Singapore – Ferretti Group is excited to announce the sale of a wallytender43 to Singapore. Facilitated by Hong Seh Marine – Ferretti Yachts, Riva and Pershing’s exclusive local dealer – the gorgeous Gunmetal-coloured tender was purchased by an owner already familiar with the Group’s various brands. Excitingly, the purchase marks not only the first new Wally to be sold to Singapore, but the first for the entire Southeast Asian region as well.

With over 25 years of luxury yacht-building experience under its belt, Monaco-based Wally has crafted the new 13m-long wallytender43 to be the ultimate all-rounder. Robust and practical yet thrillingly fast, it can be – in turns – a family day boat, a superyacht tender, a resort shuttle or even a sailing yacht support vehicle.

Constructed in Forlì, Italy, the wallytender43 is crafted from an advanced ultra light composite with carbon fibre for utmost durability. Capable of carrying 12 passengers at a top speed of over 40 knots, its athletic performance is aided by the laminated sail mounted across the T-top’s carbon fibre superstructure – a feature inspired by Wally’s extensive sailing heritage. This innovative solution not only allows passengers sitting in its unique centre cockpit to enjoy the exhilarating sensation of open-air oceanic living, but also protects them from the sun and the elements, even when travelling at top speeds.

Built to enhance ease of life on the high seas, this deftly designed vessel comes with an expansive array of premium equipment as standard, be it the afore-mentioned carbon fibre T-top, LED deck lighting for better visibility, side-opening bulwark wings that expand the available deck space, or the iconic Wally wrap-around fender system. Available in a whole host of head-turning colours, the wallytender43 is the perfect seafaring solution to the multipurpose needs of today’s discerning yacht owners.

The coming weeks will be a busy time for Hong Seh Marine as two units of new restyle Ferretti Yachts 780 are scheduled to arrive from Italy to their new owners in Singapore this August and September 2021.

A Change of Look and a Host of New Features for Even More Comfort and Wellbeing

Ferretti Yachts 780 has so many new style and design features that speaking about it as a new boat is a well-deserved acknowledgement of profound changes at both aesthetic and functional level.

The result of collaboration between the Product Strategy Committee led by Mr. Piero Ferrari, the Ferretti Group Engineering Department, and Ideaeitalia for the interior design, Ferretti Yachts 780 has been rethought to align it with the family feeling of the new fleet, reprising and evolving the stylistic hallmarks introduced by Ferretti Yachts 500 and Ferretti Yachts 1000.

The new features introduced by the restyling range from the extensive glazed surfaces in the hull, giving the yacht’s sleek and streamlined profile an even sportier look, to the new layout and decor of the flybridge, with a larger central bar area in the standard layout. The major redesign of the interiors introduces several highly appreciated new features found on the latest models in the range, including a choice of two decor moods: Classic, with warmer and more traditional colours inspired by the island of Ischia in the Gulf of Naples; and Contemporary, a more urban and modern look with cooler colourways inspired by Taormina in Sicily. The first new-era Ferretti Yachts 780 presented will feature the Classic mood.

Hong Seh Marine is now preparing to christen them as soon as they arrive on our shores. NOT ONE, BUT TWO Ferretti Yachts 780 are ready to be admired at nowhere else but Asia’s Finest Marina – ONE 15 Marina Sentosa Cove.
